Battling Over Screenware
![]() | Discussion amongst stakeholders around user experience designs can often deteriorate into a tug-of-war over what user interface widgets and gadgets are 'best' to have on the screen in order to resolve a given problem. There is a very good reason why an expert user interface designer would try to prevent valuable stakeholder inputs from becoming a battle for 'screenware' dominance: raw user inputs about what 'works best' is just noise. Knee-jerk 'solutions' to superficially identified problems never produces a viable design What makes user x happy now may make them very unhappy 2 minutes from now because, without knowing it, they have changed 'Roles'. A Role change can produce a massively different perspective about what's important and what's not. A key thing that the user experience designer must try to avoid, is an interface that pits different Roles against each other. |
